John Basil Lamar was a Representative from Georgia. Born in Milledgevill, Baldwin County, Georgia on November 5, 1812. He attended Dr. Beman's school at Mount Zion, Ga. and Franklin College (now University of Georgia) at Athens in 1827. He later moved to a plantation near Macon, Bibb County, Ga. in 1830 and engaged in agricultural pursuits.
